What Can Be Done To Remove The Bees?

Once a hive has been established on your property, the bees will not leave on their own. However, a swarm of bees is a different story. A bee swarm is only a temporary huddle while scout bees scan the surrounding area for possible nesting locations. Eventually a swarm will move to the selected spot found by the scout bee.

Honeybee Swarm In Tree

So, what does this mean for you in regards to getting bees off your property? If you have just noticed a group of bees lumped together, usually latched onto something and exposed, this is probably a hive. The bees are only temporarily situated there and will moved on in 1-3 days. But this doesn’t mean that their nesting location that the scout bees found isn’t in another spot on your property – like in the roof eaves of your home.

A swarm removal or scout bee treatment is recommended in this situation.

Honeycomb Exposed After Removing Roof Cover

If you have had the bees for more than a few days or have noticed some bee activity but can’t locate a large cluster of bees, then the bees have probably established a hive. Hives are permanent and should be professionally removed. The reason you probably can’t find the group of honey bees is because hives are usually positioned inside an enclosed area (wall voids, roof eaves, inside irrigation boxes, etc.) The limited bee activity is the worker bees going in and out of the hive.

A live bee removal or bee extermination and honeycomb removal is recommended at this point. The former will eradicate the bees and the latter will extract the honeycomb. Removing the honeycomb prevents attracting future bee infestation and secondary pest problems as well as damage from walls saturated with honey.
